Today’s corn took the form of a midnight snack, made from what I had at my disposal in our hotel. Namely: a cup of Donbei brand instant tempura soba from the vending machine. I prepared the soba according to the manufacturer’s instructions and added corn. It was surprisingly delicious, with a lot more texture than I expected. The noodles had bite and the disc of kakiage had real crunch. The flavor was also quite nostalgic for me, since I used to buy this stuff every now and then when I was a student. This seemed like sort of a sad little snack when I put it together, but actually it was warm, tasty, and satisfying. And it went great with a can of lemon chu-hi.
